Space Cost Engineering Conference 2026

Conference
Description

The Cost Engineering profession in the space domain is constantly evolving, needing to keep up with new tools and methods. In recent years, the arrival of "new space" has caused a shift from the manufacturing of single and small series of satellites to large-scale industrialisation, and the sale of services rather than systems.

This conference is to facilitate the exchange of best practices, methods, trends and lessons learned within the cost engineering community, giving opportunity to participants to demonstrate and share their work through presentations (and optional papers) on:

  • Costing Methods:
    • Cost Modelling,
    • Cost Analysis,
    • Affordability Analysis,
    • Design-to-Cost,
    • Earned Value Management.
  • Cost engineering practice & trends:
    • Technical and Cost Data Acquisition and Storing,
    • Cost evolution trends,
    • Cost and Industrialisation.
  • Strategic perspectives:
    • Impact of New Space approaches,
    • Impact of AI in cost estimation
    • Cost reduction versus risk taking.
  • People:
    • Evolution of the cost engineer profile,
    • Inspiring students and recruiting new cost engineers.

… and related subjects.

The conference will take place on October 1 and 2 in ESA ESTEC (Noordwijk, the Netherlands), with oral presentations interspersed with breaks for discussion. The conference will be held in person and in English.

Who should attend?

  • Professionals in the domain of cost engineering and cost analysis from industry, space agencies, institutes and academia, and space service providers.
  • Cost estimating service and tool providers.
  • Researchers in the area of cost modelling, data mining, statistics, etc.
  • System Engineers, Project Controllers, Procurement Managers, Study Managers, Executive Managers and Project Managers dealing with cost estimates and cost-related trades.
  • Aerospace and Data Engineering students.

Although the focus of the conference is space, the cost estimating concepts and tools presented may apply to all large project-based businesses such as aeronautics and automotive industry. Participants from non-space domains are therefore also encouraged to join our conference.

Logistics and Travel

The conference will have a fee, with reduced fees available for early registration and students. Participants are expected to cover their own travel, meal and accommodation costs.

To reach ESA/ESTEC, please feel free to use the practical guide.
