The European Space Agency is inviting you to a new edition of the bi-annual Software Product Assurance Workshop!

Organised by the Software Product Assurance Section, this workshop is the leading event in its field and an excellent opportunity to learn about the state-of-the-art in the domains of software product assurance and software engineering in the European space industry.

The first day of the workshop, 4 October, will be a training course dedicated to the ECSS software standards (ECSS-Q-ST-80C Rev.1 and ECSS-E-ST-40C). This will be followed by three days of key-notes, presentations and interactive sessions focused on the most recent topics and trends in the industry.

The workshop provides many opportunities for networking and interfacing with international experts in a wide variety of specialties. It is an exciting forum for presenting and discussing the recent advances in the software product assurance and software engineering fields. Topics that will be covered are software solutions, cyber security, model-based software engineering and assurance, machine learning, agile, and many others!

This edition of the workshop will be held fully online. To ensure safe and comfortable participation for all attendees, the training and the presentation sessions will be organised virtually. We will make maximum use of online collaboration platforms in order to achieve the same level of interaction this workshop is famous for. More details will be sent to registered attendees closer to the workshop dates, so stay tuned!

Training Day 4 October

Part 1: Software Engineering

The first part of the training day will cover the ECSS-E-ST-40C standard and will go into all relevant topics related to space software engineering, like the software development lifecycle, review milestones, requirements elicitation, software design, coding, verification and validation. The training will also give an overview of the draft of the new E40 standard, which will have been released for public review.

Part 2: Software Product Assurance

The second part of the training day will cover the ECSS-Q-ST-80C Rev.1 standard. It will cover software product assurance topics like safety and dependability, process assessment and improvement, configuration management, software reuse, software problem resolution management, software metrication and more.

Part 3: Agile Software Development

The last part of the training day will be an interactive session on agile software development in space projects. The session will be based on the ECSS Agile Handbook (ECSS-E-HB-40-01A) and will focus on best practices for combining the agile development lifecycle with ECSS processes that have traditionally been based on the V-cycle.
