ECSS discipline U-10 Space Debris Mitigation (2023)

E-learning
Description

This webinar, delivered in March 2023, covers the ECSS discipline U-10 Space Debris Mitigation.

The course provides participants with some basic knowledge about ESA space debris mitigation requirements and associated verification of compliance processes:

  • System view of space debris mitigation requirements, its relationships and interfaces, its utilisation and impact on the development of ESA programme and project activities
  • Understanding of space debris mitigation requirements and associated activities applicable to ESA projects including a brief overview of most commonly performed analyses
  • Understanding of the compliance verification process of space debris mitigation requirements to establish ITT and project specific requirements
  • Management of the space debris mitigation engineering programme aspects in space projects
  • Management and assessment of the implementation of the space debris mitigation programme plans by Prime and Subcontractors

The course address space debris mitigation and ECSS-U-AS-10C Rev. 1 (adoption notice for ISO 24113:2019) including the following:

  • Overview of space debris mitigation related to system engineering disciplines
  • Relationships and interfaces between space debris mitigation and other programmatic/technical disciplines
  • Utilisation and impact of ECSS-U-AS-10C Rev. 1 on ESA projects
  • Understanding of space debris mitigation requirements from a system engineering perspective including their flow-down from system to lower levels
  • Overview of most commonly used space debris mitigation processes, methods, tools and analyses for compliance with requirements
  • Overview of space debris mitigation issues encountered in the management of space debris mitigation engineering and assurance programs

Objectives

The objective of the Space Debris Mitigation course is to:

  • provide participants with a thorough understanding of:
    • the requirements for space debris mitigation applicable to ESA projects
    • the processes for compliance
  • improve the knowledge to implement and manage effectively space debris mitigation requirements in accordance with the relevant standards in the list of ESA Applicable Standards (LEAS)
  • provide the understanding of the interactions between space debris mitigation and other engineering principles, both programmatic and technical
