ECSS discipline E-31 Thermal Control (May 2023)
The curse will provide a high-level overview on the space thermal engineering field, interactions and impact of the TCS (thermal control subsystem) throughout a project lifecycle, and familiarity with the ECSS thermal control standard (E-31).
Skills to be acquired at the course:
- High level overview on the space thermal engineering field
- Interaction and impact of the TCS (Thermal Control subsystem) throughout a project lifecycle
- Getting familiarized with the thermal ECSS standard
The course will cover:
- introduction and overview on the space thermal engineering discipline
- interaction and impact of the TCS (thermal Control subsystem) throughout a project
- lifecycle
- introduction of the main requirements and main constraints
- introduction to the ECSS Thermal Control standard:
- terms & definitions
- technical requirements (mission, performance, design, verification, etc.)
- documentation requirements
- tailoring the standard for projects
The objectives of this course is to present the basics of ECSS-E-ST-31C Space Engineering – Thermal Control General Requirements and to familiarise the audience with this standard and its applicability to ESA space activities. This will cover the establishment of technical and reporting requirements in this discipline as well as an introduction into tailoring.
